(CNN) — Iraq’s prime minister will visit the White House next month, just a couple of weeks before American service members are scheduled to depart from the country.

President Barack Obama will welcome Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki on December 12, the White House said Friday.

“The two leaders will hold talks on deepening the comprehensive strategic partnership between the United States and Iraq. The president honors the sacrifices and achievements of all those who have served in Iraq, and of the Iraqi people, to reach this moment full of promise for an enduring U.S.-Iraq friendship,” the White House said in a statement.

Baghdad, Nov. 5 (AKnews) – The story of US Vice President Joe Biden’s visit to Iraq is getting even weirder: After the Kurdistan Regional Government announced earlier that Biden will not visit the Kurdistan Region, an anonymous Iraqi official now claimed that Biden will not come to Iraq at all.

The expected visit, which had been announced as a “surprise visit” by Iraqi news media last week, was allegedly postponed to next month.

“There are no surprise visits. There are only visits that are kept secret due to security reasons,” the source said and requested anonymity because it was not authorized to talk to the media.

Erbil, Nov. 5 (AKnews) – Erbil residents are complain about surging prices before the Id al-Dhaha (Nov. 6-10) although an official stresses the markets are regularly monitored against pricing violations.

Lamya Rahman, 34, was shopping in Erbil Qaysari market. She told AKnews the prices have been raised for a week.

“Three days ago one kilo of chicken was 3,500 Iraqi Dinar (almost US$3) but now it is raised to 4,500 ID (approx $4),” she said, in the same time one kilo of turkey rose from $10 to $12.50 and a kilo of lamb from $12 to $14. (more…)
