UNITED NATIONS, May 22 (KUNA) ­ The Security Council approved Secretary ­General’s proposal to conclude an agreement with Iraq in order to transfer the Kuwaiti funds contained in a UN Trust Fund to the Iraqi Government so that it distributes appropriate amounts on the Iraqi private citizens who remained on Kuwaiti territory following the demarcation of the international boundary between Iraq and Kuwait.

Ban had informed the Council in a letter that “given the Iraqi requests to transfer the funds and the fact that no objections were raised by the State of Kuwait, ­­ I intend to conclude an agreement with the Government of Iraq whereby the United Nations will transfer the funds contained in the Trust Fund, less applicable administrative costs, to the Government of Iraq.” He did not specify a date when the transfer will take place. Baghdad (AIN) -The Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Wednesday urged Iraq to “immediately remove all obstacles” hindering the “timely completion” of the Iraq-Kuwait Boundary Maintenance Project (IKBMP) by the end of this month.

In a written report to the Security Council on the work of the UN Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI), Ban urged Iraq to fulfill “all” its outstanding obligations “without further delay,” and told both countries that a “historic opportunity” is at hand to fully normalize their relations. (more…)

issued by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al­Ahmad Al­Jaber Al­Sabah approving a settlement for the
Iraqi Airways issue

The UN chief, late on Friday, described as a “positive development” the Amir of Kuwait’s decree of October
23rd, endorsing the July 18 agreement on the Iraqi Airways issue between the Governments of Iraq and
Kuwait, paving the way to a final resolution of the Kuwaiti lawsuits against Iraqi Airways (more…)

Agreement Between the United States of America and the Republic of Iraq On the Withdrawal of United States Forces from Iraq and the Organization of Their Activities during Their Temporary Presence in Iraq


The United States of America and the Republic of Iraq, referred to hereafter as “the Parties´´:

Recognizing the importance of: strengthening their joint security, contributing to world peace and stability, combating terrorism in Iraq, and cooperating in the security and defense spheres, thereby deterring aggression and threats against the sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of Iraq and against its democratic, federal, and constitutional system;

Affirming that such cooperation is based on full respect for the sovereignty of each of them in accordance with the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter;

Out of a desire to reach a common understanding that strengthens cooperation between them;

Without prejudice to Iraqi sovereignty over its territory, waters, and airspace; and

Pursuant to joint undertakings as two sovereign, independent, and coequal countries;

Have agreed to the following:
