Washington, Baghdad – d b a, AFP – President Barack Obama said the United States and Iraq were nearing the «turn the page and start a new chapter», where the last troops preparing to leave the country by the end of the month. Obama spoke and and Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki to reporters after the meeting, Obama said: «After about nine years, ending our war in Iraq and the new relationship will be based on mutual interest and mutual respect».

He stressed that «Mr. Prime Minister, as we conclude this year’s Taking Iraq faces its future, on the Iraqi people to know that you do not hang on stand .. You have a strong partner and durable ». Obama said he would not stay any troops in Iraq, warning other countries to intervene. (more…)

BAGHDAD—Vice President Joe Biden arrived unannounced in Iraq on Tuesday to mark the end of a controversial chapter of American history and the beginning of what the Obama administration hopes is a new partnership with the country after nearly nine years of war.

Mr. Biden’s visit is poised to be rich in symbolism and emotion as he meets with Iraqi leaders and pays homage to U.S. troops, the last of which are preparing to return home by the end of the year. Since the U.S.-led invasion in 2003, the Iraq war has claimed more than 4,400 American lives, left some 32,000 service members injured, and cost U.S. taxpayers more than $800 billion.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today in the U.S. Senate, Sen. Rand Paul introduced an amendment to the Department of Defense Authorization bill to formally end the war in Iraq.

The war in Iraq cannot be considered definitively concluded if Congress does not reclaim its constitutional power to declare war by repealing the underlying authorization. Until Congress takes this action, the President would still possess the legal authority to move troops into Iraq or to conduct kinetic operations within its borders, agreements with the Iraqi government notwithstanding.

WASHINGTON — The future of Iraq hinges not on the status of U.S. troops or its deep oil wells but on whether Iraqis can muster a sense of hope in their collective future.

Iraqis waiting for hours in line for gasoline or fanning away flies until the electricity comes back on are understandably skeptical of government promises. They bear the scars of their own government’s dismal history. They also believe the United States has its own interests in mind, and does not have unlimited political will to slough through decades of messy, expensive problem solving.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A White House official says President Barack Obama will announce Friday that U.S. troops will be out of Iraq by the end of the year.

The announcement will allow the U.S. to say definitively that the war in Iraq is over after eight years. The official says the partnership between the U.S. and Iraq will become a normal one between two sovereign nations.

Clinton said in the article which was published in the journal “Foreign Policy in the U.S.” to the number in November under the title (the era of America in the Pacific), “The end of the war in Iraq, and start the U.S. withdraw its troops from Afghanistan, the United States stands at a pivotal point” .

She said, during the past 10 years we have dedicated substantial resources to these laid-off, and in the next 10 years we need to be smart and Mmenhgen to determine where to invest time and energy to put ourselves in the best position to maintain our leadership and to ensure that our interests and the payment of our values. ”
