UNITED NATIONS, July 31 (KUNA) — Kuwait and Iraq deposited with the UN a copy of the Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) they concluded late last May concerning the financing of a project to build a housing complex in Umm Qasr, and requested that it be issued as a Security Council document, it was announced in a letter issued on Wednesday.

The MOU, signed by Kuwaiti Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Sabah Khalid Al Hamad Al Sabah and Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, and issued on Wednesday as a Security Council document, said it was meant to “strengthen the close historical ties” between the two countries and to affirm Kuwait’s belief in the need to support ongoing efforts to rebuild Iraq. BAGHDAD, Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshayar Zebari said Thursday that Iraq is about to end its Chapter VII status after reaching agreements with Kuwait on resolving pending issues under Chapter VI of the UN Charter.

Zebari identified the longstanding issues with Kuwait as finding and returning Kuwaiti prisoners of war and missing people; returning seized Kuwaiti properties; returning Kuwait state body archives; repairing border markers; and compensations. (more…)

JEDDAH, June 2 (KUNA) ­­ GCC foreign ministers have commended an understanding between Kuwait and Iraq over a mechanism to follow up the issue of prisoners and missing people from Kuwait and other countries, as well as returning the State of Kuwait’s properties and national archive.

The foreign ministers, in a statement at the end of their one­day meeting here, welcomed Iraq’s cooperation to implementing UN Security Council’s (UNSC) resolutions, namely those related to the completion of maintenance of border signs with Kuwait.

BAGHDAD, May 30 (KUNA) ­­ Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshayar Zebari said Thursday that Iraq is about to end its Chapter VII status after reaching agreements with Kuwait on resolving pending issues under Chapter VI of the UN Charter.

Baghdad (NINA) – Foreign Minister, Hoshyar Zebari, signed with Kuwait’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sabah al-Khalid al-Hamad al-Sabah, two memos of understanding; the first is related to arrangements of maintenance of borders’ demarcation signs, while the other is related to financing the construction of housing complex in Um Qasr.

Baghdad (AIN) –MP, Aliya Nusayif, of the Hurra Iraqiya Slate called the government not to grant more territories to Kuwait in order to release Iraq from the Seventh Chapter of the United Nation’s Charter.
