Ban satisfied with Iraq’s cooperation with Compensation Commission

NEW YORK, Dec 19 (KUNA) — UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Thursday expressed his satisfaction that Iraq continues to deposit five percent of its oil revenues to the Compensation Fund, in accordance with relevant UN Security Council resolutions, to pay the victims of the 1990 Iraqi invasion of Kuwait.

“I would like to express my ongoing appreciation to the Government of Iraq and the Iraq Committee of Financial Experts (COFE) for their continued cooperation with the Compensation Commission,” Ban told the Council in his six-month report. (more…)

BAGHDAD, May 8 (AKnews) – The money retained in the Development Fund of Iraq will cover the deficit in this year’s federal budget.

1994 — UN Security Council Resolution 949 is unanimously approved, condemning Iraq’s mobilization of troops along the Kuwaiti border and calling for an immediate and complete withdrawal of the military units to their original positions.

United Nations Security Council Resolution 949, adopted unanimously on October 15, 1994, after recalling previous resolutions including 678 (1990), 686 (1991), 687 (1991), 689 (1991) and 833 (1993) on Iraq, the Council, acting under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter, demanded that Iraq withdraw troops recently deployed to the border with Kuwait or face further measures.

Baghdad (news) .. transport minister said Hadi al-Amiri said that the technical committee responsible for monitoring the port of Kuwait and the file sent by the government of Kuwait did not affect the construction of a port to stop Mubarak, calling on the State of Kuwait to find another place to set up the port to revive the north side of them.

International Advisory and Monitoring Board


The International Advisory and Monitoring Board (IAMB) was created under
the mandate of United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1483 of May
2003. The executive heads of the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development, the
International Monetary Fund (IMF), the United Nations and the World Bank established the
IAMB in October 2003, with the finalization of the IAMB terms of reference. A fifth full
voting member was designated by the Government of Iraq in June 2004.


The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) was heralded in Security Council Resolution 1500 adopted on 14 August 2003 as a one-year follow-through mission in the wake of the Oil-for-Food programme handover on 21 November 2003.

In the aftermath of direct attacks on the UN in Iraq and the subsequent evacuation of the UN international staff from Baghdad by November, political and security concerns vis a vis mandate and re-entry were urgently reviewed by the Secretary General. During this period, a core UNAMI forward planning team supported the development of innovative operational options for continued UN involvement in Iraq and established a centralised coordination and information sharing mechanism for the relocated humanitarian community in Amman.

The Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) today completed the second review of Iraq’s economic performance under a program supported by a Stand-By Arrangement (SBA). Completion of the second review makes an additional SDR 297.1 million (about US$471.1 million) available for disbursement, bringing the total resources currently purchased by Iraq under the SBA to SDR 1.069 billion (about US$1.7 billion).


Iraq debt repayments has large oil revenues exclusively via deductions information and rates approved by the UN Security Council resolutions, Iraq is deprived of means and methods used by States to pay their debts and deprive them of the advantages and contents of bilateral agreements and close economic and trade exchanges that allow personal country more flexibility in payment by the debtor.
