NEW YORK, Nov 25 (KUNA) — UN Special Envoy for Iraq Nickolay Mladenov on Monday said further Iraq-Kuwait commitment and the improvement of the security situation in Iraq will bring about closure of the missing Kuwaiti persons and property files “as quickly as possible.

“It has been too long, already. The outstanding issues on the missing persons and property need to be closed as quickly as possible. It is very encouraging that both the Iraqi and Kuwaiti authorities are committed to work together,” Mladenov told KUNA following a Security Council meeting on the situation in Iraq, including its relation with neighbouring Kuwait. UNITED NATIONS, July 31 (KUNA) — Kuwait and Iraq deposited with the UN a copy of the Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) they concluded late last May concerning the financing of a project to build a housing complex in Umm Qasr, and requested that it be issued as a Security Council document, it was announced in a letter issued on Wednesday.

The MOU, signed by Kuwaiti Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Sabah Khalid Al Hamad Al Sabah and Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, and issued on Wednesday as a Security Council document, said it was meant to “strengthen the close historical ties” between the two countries and to affirm Kuwait’s belief in the need to support ongoing efforts to rebuild Iraq. (AIN) –Iraq forwarded a message to the UN Security Council in which it announced setting a legal mechanism to settle the Prisoners of War and missing persons file with Kuwait.

The UNSC had voted unanimously on transferring the pending issues between Iraq and Kuwait on the prisoners and missing persons file as well as the stolen properties of Kuwait to the UN mission in Iraq under the UN Charter’s 6th Chapter after relieving Iraq from the 7th Ch. in last June. (more…)

(AIN) -Iraq officially demanded the UN Security Council to extend the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq’s mandate (UNAMI) for one year.

Iraq Permanent envoy to the UN, the Ambassador, Mohamed al-Hakim, said during the UNSC session held on last Tuesday to follow up the Secretary General’s report on the UNAMI “I would like to convey the Iraqi government’s request to prolong the UNAMI’s mandate for one year according to the terms adopted in the Security Council’s resolution No.1770 for 2007.” (more…)

Revealed an official source at the Oil Ministry, on Monday, that Iraq is in the process of the formation of special committees to determine joint oil wells with Kuwait and will be concluded to the two sides cooperated in the development of these wells under a special agreement between the two countries so as to ensure the interest of both parties may be international supervision.
