BAGHDAD/ Aswat al-Iraq: UN Compensations Committee handed over $1.2 billion to Kuwaiti government in part of the compensations of Iraqi invasion of 1990.

BAGHDAD/ Aswat al-Iraq: Iraqi foreign minister Hoshiar Zebari stated that Iraq convinced Kuwait to transfer the borders question from UN Chapter VII to Chapter VI, expressing satisfaction of bilateral talks with Kuwait.

In a press conference, at the ministry, on the results of his visit to Kuwait, he stated that “our plan to end the work of UN coordinator’s work, because his stay means continued sanctions against the country”. (more…)

BAGHDAD/ Aswat al-Iraq: Premier Nouri al-Maliki expressed his vision on the events in the region and its reflections on Iraq to the UN representative to Baghdad Martin Kobler.

Maliki, in a statement, copy received by Aswat al-Iraq, stressed, in a meeting with Kobler, Iraqi unity and rejection of violence, extremism and denominationalism. (more…)

BAGHDAD/ Aswat al-Iraq: Iraqiya Bloc spokesman Haidar al-Mulla announced today that “withdrawing confidence from Premier Nouri al-Maliki’s government is final” and the current talks are concentrating on “forming the new coming government and agreeing on its premier”.

Mulla told Aswat al-Iraq that the decision is final on the signatures level, national consensus and Presidency decision. (more…)

BAGHDAD/ Aswat al-Iraq: US dollar price increased in the Iraqi market in a sudden move to reach 122.6 dinars for each dollar, while the Central Bank of Iraq (CBI) announced no sales of foreign currency unless it received a tax clearance from the company and the documents for covering trade remittance.

Following CBI new regulations, the price of the dollar jumped to reach 1260 for each dollar, compared to 1240 dinars per dollar during the last two months. (more…)

ERBIL, March 6 (AKnews) – Iraq’s deputy parliament speaker Qusay al-Suhail has called on Italy to help lift the UN Chapter VII sanctions imposed on Iraq, reports Aswat al-Iraq.

According to a statement from Iraq’s parliament, Suhail sought help in a meeting with the head of the political department at the Italian foreign ministry Sandro Bernardin and the Italian ambassador to Baghdad Gerardo Carante. (more…)

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Kurdish Alliance MP Shwan Mohammed Taha disclosed today that the paper to be presented by his political bloc to the national conference will include the implementation of Article 140 of the constitution and the oil and gas law.

Taha told Aswat al-Iraq that “the Kurdish Alliance has many important matters to present”.

He added that the differences among political entities are clear, mostly naming the security ministries and balances in the governmental establishments.

Article 140 of the constitution is connected with determining the destiny of the disputed areas on three stages, of normalization of relations, census, and referendum if the people want to be annexed to Kurdistan or Baghdad.

BASRA / Aswat al-Iraq: A National Alliance MP media officer said today that Suzan al-Saad called on Premier Nouri al-Maliki to expedite his trip to Kuwait to solve pending questions, the foremost of which is Mobarak terminal.

Sabri al-Nasiri told Aswat al-Iraq that MP Al-Saad believed that these question began threatening the Iraqi public that will affect its living conditions. (more…)

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Iraq’s Foreign Minister, Hoshiar Zibary, has reiterated in a meeting with the Chairman of the UN’s Executive Council for Compensations on necessity to reach for a final settlement for the issue of compensations and to treat all the suspended issues with Kuwait, according to a Foreign Ministry statement on Tuesday.

The statement, as was received by Aswat al-Iraq news agency, stressed that Zibary had conferred on Monday evening with the Chairman of the UN’s Executive Council for Compensations, H.

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Iraq’s Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has said on Tuesday that American Companies have no control on Iraqi Oil, rejecting the description of Iraq as a “cake,” shared by different forces inside and outside the country.

“American companies have no control over Iraq’s Oil,” Maliki said in an interview with al-Arabiya TV Satellite Channel on Tuesday, adding that “the licensing session for the investment of Iraqi oil fields had been transparent and clear, and the American companies had failed to get more than one contract, sharing it with other companies.”

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

The Iraqi Parliament is scheduled to discuss in its Monday session the draft-law for the country’s Federal Budget for the year 2012, along with several other draft-laws, including the draft-law on the rules for the nomination of the President, according to a Parliament’s statement.

“The Parliament shall resume its discussion of the Federal Budget for the year 2012, along with the organization of the draft-law for the nomination of the President and the the nomination of one or more than one Vice-Presidents for the country,” the statement, as was received by Aswat al-Iraq news agency, stressed. BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Iraqi Parliament Speaker Usama Nujaifi confirmed today the necessity of UN to assist Iraq to be out of Chapter VII in order to finalize this dossier for good.

In a statement of his office, during his reception of UN representative Martin Kopler, both discussed the latest political developments in the country.

Kopler expressed happiness fro US forces withdrawal, and hoped to overcome all political disputes as soon as possible and find proper solutions. (more…)

The Iraqi Parliament has decided on Sunday to postpone its session to Jan. 17th, due to the non-completion of the legal majority for today’s session, a Parliament’s media source announced today.

“The Parliament’s Speaker, Usama al-Nujeify, has decided to postpone the Parliament’s session today to the 17th of January, due to the non-completion of the legal majority of today’s session, attended by 140 out of the Parliament’s 325 Members,” the media source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: A State of Law MP, Abbas al-Bayati announced today that the Kuwaiti invitation to Premier Nouri al-Maliki is still valid and remains under preparation.

Bayati told Aswat al-Iraq that “the invitation will discuss the main question between the two brotherly countries”.

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: MP for the coalition of state law, Abbas al-Bayati, Saturday, the Kuwaiti government’s call to the Prime Minister to visit Kuwait and are still under preparation.

He said al-Bayati told (Voices of Iraq) announced today that “there is a standing invitation from the Kuwaiti side of Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki to visit Kuwaiti territory and to discuss the most important things on the ground and between the two brotherly countries.” (more…)

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, has expressed anxiety towards the current political tension in Iraq, calling on all parties in the country to “act together, in order to settle their differences peacefully andthrough constructive dialogue and presenting some concessions, along with the division of authorities and the independence of the Judiciary”.

The UN Secretary-General said, in a statement published on the UN’s Official Satellite position on Wednesday, that “continued differences are contributing to the increase in the security deterioration in Iraq, which has witnessed a series of explosions in the past period”. (more…)

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: State of Law MP Ali al-Alaq attributed the delay of Premier Nouri al-Maliki’s visit to Kuwait to “technical reasons”.

Alaq told Aswat al-Iraq today that “there are technical reasons behind the delay of the visit”, but negated that these are health reasons, as reported by the media, stressing that Maliki’s health is “good”.

Maliki was supposed to have left on a visit to Kuwait last Sunday to discuss pending questions between the two countries.

NEW YORK / Aswat al-Iraq: The Leaders of al-Iraqiya Alliance, its Chairman Iyad Allawi, the Parliament’s Speaker, Usama al-Nujeify and Finance Minister, Rafi’a al-Issawi, have published a message in the New York Times newspaper on Monday, demanding the US Administration to “link its support for Prime Minister, Nouri al-Malliky, with his implementation of the Arbil Agreement, issued by Iraqi Kurdistan President, Massoud Barzani, calling on the Iraqi political forces to abandon their differences and agree on a common plan to settle those differences.

The message demanded that the US assistance for the Iraqi Army, police and security forces, include a condition that they serve the whole Iraqi Nation and not a single sectarian group or party.
